Growing Air focuses on an expansive forest of approximately one thousand ponderosa pine trees I planted during Spring 1992 as part of the effort to reforest Holcomb Valley (clear-cut by settlers during the Southern California gold rush of 1860) and improve air quality in the Inland Empire. My in-progress project is primarily photo-based works that derive from my response to this most personal yet public space and an in depth field investigation into the natural and cultural history of this unique and complex landscape located in the San Bernardino National Forest. Works are available by request. -Sant Khalsa
